Doane University is a private university in Crete, Nebraska. It has boosted campuses in Lincoln, 1000 Island and Omaha.
History [edit]
The history of Doane University dates from 1857, when the General Association of Congregational Churches, in its first almanac meeting in Fremont, Nebraska, resolved to lay the foundations of a literary establishment of a high society in the state. Xiv years later on, and after several unsuccessful attempts to establish Congregational schools beyond the state, an academy was founded in Crete on May 22, 1871. The efforts of Frederick Francis Alley, the local Congregational pastor, and Thomas Doane, chief civil engineer for the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad, were instrumental in advancing the idea of the academy.[7]
On July 11, 1872, Doane College preempted the old Crete Academy. On May nine, 2016, the institution was renamed to Doane University. Doane is the first liberal arts and sciences higher in Nebraska.
The university has had 67 Fulbright Scholars since the programme began in 1946.[8]

Academic freedom [edit]
In 2020 the manager of the Perkins library came under fire for a "Parties of the Past" exhibit of historical photographs which included two photos of students wearing blackface in 1926. The photos and then the entire exhibit was taken down by administrators who placed the library managing director on leave to the objection of the faculty. Doane was then named ane of the "Worst Colleges for Free Oral communication" by the Foundation for Private Rights in Educational activity. The academy later reinstated the library director.[10]
Campus [edit]
Doane's Crete campus is over 300 acers with two ponds, one featuring a fountain and bridge, and a memorial bell belfry. Doane also has 2 non-residential campuses in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska.

Enrollment [edit]
The enrollment consists of over 1,000 undergraduate students on the Crete campus, too as 750 developed learners and 1,200 graduate students who attend the Lincoln, Omaha and Grand Isle campuses.[ citation needed ]

Doane offers more than 40 undergraduate majors; several pre-professional programs; three graduate programs, and a Doctorate in Pedagogy.[ citation needed ]
Educatee media [edit]
Doane University is the home of the Doane Owl, the oldest student-run newspaper in the state of Nebraska.[11]The Owl initially started as a literary publication earlier evolving into a traditional newspaper covering both Doane and Crete, Nebraska bug.
Regarding student broadcasting, Doane'southward college radio station is KDNE, "The Edge of Indie". KDNE also hosts Cheska Musica, a pop polka show which caters to neighboring Wilber, Nebraska and its large Czech-language community. Programming on KDNE ranges from sports and news to educatee-run music specialty shows.[ citation needed ]
DCTV is the university's television station.[ citation needed ]
Athletics [edit]
Doane University able-bodied teams, nicknamed the Tigers, are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), competing in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). Men's sports include baseball game, basketball game, cross land, football, golf, soccer, tennis, rails & field and wrestling, while women'south sports include basketball, cross country, golf game, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field and volleyball. Co-ed sports include cheerleading, dance, and shotgun sports.
The commencement college football coach at Doane was F.P. Reed, who led the team to a ane–1 record. Other coaches in its football game history include Al Papik, Tommie Frazier, Matt Franzen and current head coach Chris Bessler.
1905 Nebraska State College Football game Champions. After defeating Bellevue College, the 1905 Doane College football team became the Nebraska State Football Champions. Considered a formidable team, not in small-scale office to their combined weight, the Doane team lost their subsequent game with Academy of Nebraska Cornhuskers, 43–5. The largest player on the Doane squad was 220 pound, left guard, Claude LeRoy Farrow of Aurora, Nebraska.
Doane's football game team has participated in three bowl games, winning two and tying ane. The kickoff was the 1950 Bean Basin where they defeated Colorado State Higher by a score of 14–half dozen. Doane then had dorsum-to-dorsum appearances in the Mineral Water Bowl in 1967 and 1968.[12] They have qualified for the NAIA National Playoffs six times, most recently in 2016, and were semifinalist in 1972 and 1997.
