Gx Pro Series 1 2 Hp Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal Lowes

The Takeaway – 'The Moen GX100C GX Series 1 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal – a big beast for a big family. Moen style and good reputation for reliability over the longer term, plus an improved 10 year warranty. Pricey, but do the job once and do it right.'

The Moen GX100C GX Series 1 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal  by the numbers:Moen GX100C GX Series 1 HP Garbage Disposal

  • The Moen GX100C uses a 3-Bolt Mount system – traditional but secure, and interchangeable with other brands using this mounting system
  • 192 user ratings for this unit (up from only 7 last year) – 165 are 5 star reviews (86%) – a large leap up over last year, well above average, buyers seem to like it
  • Does come with a power cord, which is nice
  • Large housing due to the hefty 1 HP motor – make sure you have space under your sink
  • Powerful – great if you have a growing family of six or more
  • Not bad value for such a brute, hovering at the mid-$200 mark
  • Improved 10 year warranty – better than InSinkErator
  • Nice style – better looking than both InSinkErator and WasteKing

(First published May 2018, this review with collation of opinions and feedback has been updated again February 2022)

If you're after power, then your choices are:

  1. The Waste King L-8000 with the EZ Mount System (or its equivalent L-9980 with the traditional 3-Bolt Mount) – around $150
  2. The InSinkErator Evolution Excel – hovering at $350
  3. The Moen GX100C, which this review covers, and hovering around $200 at the time of writing

I generally don't need style – the disposer is hidden 99% of the time in the cupboard under the sink. It's not something I gaze at in awe and wonder. I like the Moen design, but I prefer the WasteKing warranty (it was a lifetime warranty, but has recently dropped to 20 years – this is still way longer than anyone else).

The InSinkErator brand, although popular, just seems to be a bit shoddy at the lower end of the market these days. The Evolution Excel seems like an amazing piece of kit, but at a price, and at a warranty point of 7 years.

So, if you have the budget, I would personally opt for the InSinkErator Evolution Excel – if it lasts 7 years, then it'll likely be fine for years after that.

If you are on a budget and with a big family, the WasteKing L-8000 (I would personally opt for the L-9980 – I feel the EZ Mount System can come loose and needs periodic tightening, so I would just go for the traditional 3-Bolt Mount instead) would be my weapon of choice.

If you want some style, but don't want to stretch to the $350 of the InSinkErator, then the Moen would be my choice – Moen is not as popular, but I feel that a company that spends time on the exterior design is likely also to spend time on the interior design, and as such is likely to be a reasonable bet.

Features of the Moen GX100C GX Series 1 HP Garbage Disposal

Power Capacity of Motor – The unit is equipped with a powerful 1 HP vortex motor running at 2800 RPM. At this speed and torque, you're unlikely to see any jams, and it'll pulverize pretty much anything you stuff down it!

Compact & Space Efficient Design – It is pretty big, because of the size of the motor, but not as large as the InSinkErator and WasteKing 1 HP units. The dimensions run at 7.5 inches x 7.5 inches x 16 inches, and the weight is around 13 lbs.

Xpress Mounting – The 3-Bolt Mounting system is straightforward: clean the drain opening of the sink well (you don't want any imperfections creating a leak path), use plumbers putty to prep the opening, attach the Mount, twist and lock into the place the housing of the disposer.

Power Cord – The product comes up with a pre-installed power cord. As long as you have an electrical socket under your sink, it's a simple plug-and-play.

Warranty – Moen offers a 10-year warranty. Not as good as WasteKing, but better than InSinkErator. My view is that, if the unit is still fine after 10 years, then it'll likely last you long enough. So, 10 years is probably adequate.

Final verdict

I like the Moen designs – they look smart, and give off a Scandinavian feel. The company is American born and bread, and has been around for a long time. As such, there should be no problem in having the warranty honored if there is an issue.

It's a big machine, and you need to ask yourself whether you really need something this size. If you have a large family, then yes. But, if you are only a family of four or so, then really a 3/4 HP machine (my Editor's Choice is the Evolution Compact), which will be cheaper and quieter, is likely more than adequate.

Pros

  • Quiet – has sound shield technology
  • Built-in power cord – no extras to buy
  • Reliable 3-Bolt Mounting system with twist and lock for easier install
  • 1 HP powerful Vortex Motor
  • Removable stainless steel splash guard

Cons

  • It's big. But then, if you want a beefy 1 HP motor, what do you expect?
